Custodians:

  • Clean dormitories - clean dorm bathrooms, vacuum student rooms ( in some areas) and common areas, clean showers, clean brass, make beds (in the summer time), clean laundry rooms, wash draperies, clean dining rooms

  • Clean academic buildings - clean chalk boards, empty trash in offices, clean bathrooms, lock and unlock buildings

  • Floor maintenance - strip, wax, mop, buff, sweep, vacuum, run floor machines, run floor sweepers, extract carpets, run  carpet shampooer

  • Replace light bulbs

  • Check fire extinguishers

  • Wash walls

  • Shovel entrance ways, put out ice melt

  • Sweep entrance ways

  • Clean kitchens

  • Clean apartments

  • Lock up buildings

  • Wash windows

  • Polish furniture

  • Assist in picking-up trash

  • Set-ups for functions

  • Moving furniture

Grounds:

  • Plow snow

  • Shovel snow

  • Operate equipment - lawn sweepers, pay loaders, lawn mowers, bobcats, backhoes, sewer machine, trimmers, chainsaws, bump truck, bucket truck and snow plows

  • Spray pesticides

  • Fertilize lawns

  • Move furniture for set ups

  • Water lawns

  • Prune shrubs

  • Plant flowers and shrubs

  • Mow lawns

  • Maintain irrigation system

  • Clean out plugged sewers

Maintenance:

Carpenters (including locksmiths and masons)

  • Fix broken windows

  • Maintain doors

  • Fix and repair furniture

  • Hang, tape and repair sheetrock

  • Painting

  • Set-up furniture

  • Laying carpet

  • Pouring and forming concrete

  • Locksmith work

  • Tile floors

  • Laying block

  • Point joins

  • Paving bricks

  • Door access systems

  • Repair manholes

  • Any major building that is done in-house

  • Grout tile

  • Perform journeyman level work

Plumbers (includes boiler man and welder)

  • RO system

  • Gas lines

  • Sewer lines

  • Water lines

  • Replace and repair flush valves

  • Chemzyme systems

  • Replace and fix toilets

  • Maintain showers

  • Fix and repair boilers

  • Replace gas valves

  • Boiler controls

  • Clean and maintain boilers

  • Install and repair sinks

  • Fix broken equipment

  • Fabricate metal

  • Mig, tig, wire feed, and rod weld

  • Weld aluminum

  • Weld stainless steel

  • Perform journeyman level work

Auto mechanic

  • Responsible for all fleet equipment

  • Responsible for the New York state inspections of all fleet vehicles

  • Perform journeyman level work

Electricians

  • Supply all power on campus from 12 dc to 13200 ac

  • Street lights

  • Building exterior and interior lighting

  • All building outlets 120 to 480

  • Transformers

  • Transmission lines

  • Kitchen equipment

  • Lab equipment

  • Fire alarms

  • Perform journeyman level work

  • Trouble shoot university equipment

HVAC

  • Ice plant for the arena

  • Ice machines

  • Pneumatic systems

  • Computerized energy management system

  • Heat pumps

  • Air conditioning systems

  • Chillers

  • Fume hoods

  • Vacuum pumps

  • Must have EPA certification and keep records

  • Test and analyze glycol for proper levels

  • Perform water and air balancing

  • Perform journeyman level work

Business services:

(mail couriers, supply clerks, mail clerks and duplicating)

  • Do all the University’s printing

  • Process all the University’s internal mailing (printing, addressing and stuffing envelopes)

  • Deliver all mail on campus and packages

  • Check in packages

  • Pick-up mail from post office

  • Run the University’s post office

  • Student mail

  • Ordering supplies

  • Keeping the stockroom supplied

  • Special ordering materials for jobs

  • Tracking cost and expenses for supplies bought

  • Deliver gases and tanks

  • Provide courier service for banking purposes
