On Friday April 15th 2011 the Board of Supervisors for Washington County voted to go ahead and move forward on selling our County Run Nursing Home, Certified Home Health Care(CHHA), Long Term and Hospice Agencies that are currently handle by County Workers who live and work in Washington County.
The county run Nursing Home is a place that is HOME to these residents. They are a family there along with the workers who care for them just as much as the resident's families do. They have paid their taxes their whole lives and know just when they are not able to be in their own homes anymore. The Board of Supervisors is now going to take that away from them.
The Home Health Aides are people that go and visit the residents in their homes that are not able to take care of themselves and need assistance for daily routines, as in feeding, bathing, dressing and so much more. They are treated like family when you have a people like the county workforce taking care of them. They are not treated as money makers when a county employee is taking care of them. When you let a private company come in a take these services they are in it for profit and the residents of OUR COMMUNITY will feel it.
Long Term Home Health is for the resident of Washington County how would rather stay in their own home and have a County Employee who they trust come into their own home and provides nursing, physical, occupational, speech, respiratory therapy, meals, social day care, transportation and a life line. This will no longer be available to them and will have to sell their homes and move out of the county.
When a resident of Washington County is in their final stages of life the County Employee is there for them and their family members. How can you take that away from a resident and their family members of Washington County.
These are the very services that make Washington County a great county to live in. These are the services that take care of the residents in OUR COMMUNITY that no longer can take care of themselves.
Please contact the Board of Supervisors and let them know that:
"WE THE RESIDENTS OF WASHINGTON COUNTY WANT AND NEED THESE SERVICES. GOVERNMENT IS NOT HERE TO MAKE A PROFIT ON THE BACKS OF THE NEEDIEST RESIDENTS!"
Every single one of us know that times are hard and money is tight but isn't that why we've paid taxes here in Washington County for the services that are provided to us. If we don't start speaking up about these services being sold, when will we? When our roads aren't plowed, when our garbage is piling up and no one is there to get rid of it, when we can't register our car, when people go hungry, when children aren't being protected, when the criminals aren't being supervised? WHEN WILL IT STOP?
The amount that they county will be saving getting rid of CHHA, Long Term and Hospice will save the County $34,446. Is that a big enough saving to bring your taxes down or will the county give it to the Health Insurance Broker, since he is already making over $200,000 per year?
WHEN WILL THE RESIDENTS AND TAXPAYERS FINALLY SAY ENOUGH IS ENOUGH! WE NEED AND DESERVE THESE SERVICES!
If you've finally had enough with the downsizing of your county services, please call 518-257-1232 for a petition to get your family, friends and neighbors to sign.
